Yandex secures payments

Russian search engine Yandex has made changes to their online payment system Yandex.Money, making it more secure. They added the option “Strengthened Authorization”. With this option users no longer make use of passwords but of a one-time code.

When confirming a transaction a user has to take a code from a specific table cell. Since the code is unique it can only be used once and can't be stolen. To get the codes users will have to download a list of codes from the website or order them to get them sent to their homes.

This way of authorization is similar to using so called "TAN codes" which are also used a lot by banks. It is safer because the users won't have to be afraid that they lose their password. However the list of codes seems a bit outdated with random readers and sms-codes being used by Western banks as alternatives.

Doesn't the whole Yandex thing seem to be a bit outdated? Like a year or so outdated? =)
