Yandex still biggest in Russia

Google is the biggest search engine in Europe. In almost every country they are the biggest. There is only one which can compete: Yandex. And they can compete mostly in one country: Russia.
The latest numbers show Yandex takes up more than half of all searches in Russia. Considering that Mail.ru is also part of the Yandex network in total they take over 60%.
Google is still second with 34,5% of users. Ramblers takes up 1,9% and Bing still gets 0,4% of all users in Russia.
The 54,4% which Yandex takes up accounts for over 12 million active users in Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. The average user makes 19.6 searches per month. That is also more than with Google where users make 13 searches per month.
The reason for Yandex' lead in Russia over Google is off course the history, but the biggest factor is the grammatical modulation. Yandex is much better in recognizing and interpreting Russian search queries than Google is. Using a geographic analysis tool it is able to recognize the different speech patterns of Russian areas to produce more congruent search results.
The top five search engines in Russia:
- Yandex – 54.4% of users
- Google – 34.5% of users
- Mail.ru – 7.4% of users
- Rambler – 1.9% of users
- Bing – 0.4% of users
