20% of French Yahoo employees to be fired In October Yahoo announced major cutbacks in their staff. Most of these cutbacks would be taking place in the US, but Yahoo now announced it will be firing 52 of its 251-counting staff in France. Worldwide Yahoo is cutting 10% of its staff. The French get hit extra hard because of the large amount of engineers working in the French offices. Employees have not been notified yet because of French regulations. When the actual cutbacks will take place is unknown for now. Only last September Yahoo opened new R&D offices in Grenoble. The engineers in Grenoble were to focus on “key strategic priorities”. Yahoo was planning on making a big step forward in the European market by internationalizing Yahoo Answers and further developing semantic search. Comment |
