Yahoo also dropped meta keyword tag

Yahoo also dropped meta keyword tag

A couple of weeks ago we all looked at Google and said "duh". We were then talking about the 'official announcement' Google made regarding the Meta Keywords. They're not using it.

The announcement Google made seemed a bit over the top, because we all knew that already. However it was a helpful statement since many clients still thought the keywords were useful. Today at SMX East Yahoo announced they too are not looking at the keywords.

In the session "Ask the search engines" Yahoo said during the Q&A that they stopped using the meta-keyword tag. That means none of the search engines is now using the tag.

In the same session some other interesting statements were made. Google for example said its best to send a 503- and not a 404-code when the server is down. Google also stated its good to present Google with a 304 not modified code when a page hasn't changed. It's good for bandwidth and lets Google focus on other new pages.

Bing talked about the security they urged for strong passwords and up-to-date software.

Look for a detailed report of the session on SEroundtable.

    At last Yahoo joins in,

Google seems to want everyone to be a server monkey, most people have no idea what those codes mean let alone how to set them up. Google does seem to be moving more away from the 'build for your users, not for the search engines' view...
