Hitwise calculated that most traffic in the UK goes to social networks, while social networks themselves are the second largest source of traffic, after search engines. According to Hitwise social networks are sending their traffic towards other content driven websites, rather than revenue generating transactional sites. ![]() It does seem that both in search as in social media traffic is being directed to and through a couple of big players. Where in search Google (the Google.UK site accounts for 78,2% of search traffic and Google.com for 12,6%) is the dominant player in Social Facebook is taking that role. Facebook is the biggest social network in the UK, gathering 47,9% of all traffic to social networking sites. They are followed by YouTube with 16,7%.
