Twitter beats MySpace but Facebook beats Twitter

Social Media is hot in the UK. Facebook is the second largest site, Twitter is rising and even search terms have become more social.

Hitwise shows us that in July "Facebook" is the most clicked on search term in the UK. The search term accounted for 3,35% of all clicks.

Also, for the first time last week Twitter received more traffic than MySpace, though this has got more to do with the decline of MySpace than the rise of Twitter.

Last week Twitter 'caught' MySpace for the first time, becoming the 27th most visited sited in the UK, while Facebook dropped to 28. These positions however show the popularity is there, but also that it shouldn't be exaggerated.

In the top visited sites in the UK the combined sites of Google, Facebook and the BBC are still the sites which take up most traffic. 'Even' Bing gets more traffic than Twitter does.

When it comes to Social Networkings and Forums Twitter takes the fourth position. They are trailing Bebo by about 2%. Facebook and YouTube however still lead the way. Facebook gets 47.5% of all visits to social networking sites, while YouTube takes 16,63%. So Twitter still has got a long way to go.

Google is still by far the biggest search engine in the UK with a combined (.com and .co.uk) market share of 90,78%, followed on a distance by Yahoo (3,61%) and Bing (2,64%).
