Facebook Top European Social Networksite

Facebook is taking over Europe. Since they changed their focus from the US to worldwide the biggest social networking site of all saw a 314 percent increase to nearly 100 million visitors.

Numbers released by Comscore show that Facebook saw the biggest growth in the last year in Italy. Within a year it grew 2721%. Other major rising countries are Spain (999%), Belgium (607%) and France (518%).

The UK only saw a slow increase of Facebook users, but that is not surprising considering that Facebook already had the most users in the UK. Now 22.656 milion UK residents are on Facebook. That is almost 1,3 times the total population of a country like the Netherlands.

The countries in which Facebook has the most catching up to do are Portugal, Russia and Ireland. The only countries in which Facebook does not hold the #1 or #2 position in the social networking category are Germany, where it ranks fourth, Russia (#7) and Portugal (#3).
