Tuenti leading Spanish Social Network site

Yesterday we saw that in France social networking is growing with big numbers. We could also see that the Spanish market has the second largest internet audience in Europe.

Today Comscore shows us that the biggest social networking site in Spain is Tuenti.com. Facebook is second but saw a growth of no less than 1147 percent. Main cause of the growth is the newly introduced Spanish interface of the website.

41 percent more users internet users visited a social networking site in Spain in 2008 compared to 2007. In total that is about 3 million Spanish Internet users.The users were mostly visiting Tuenti.com which, like Facebook, saw a big growth in 2008: 770 percent.

“2008 was a significant year for social networking in Spain,” said Mike Read, SVP and Managing Director of comScore, Europe. “Thanks to the success of both Facebook and local language player Tuenti.com, the overall size of the social networking audience grew significantly over the course of the year, adding over three and a half million Spanish users. Having introduced its Spanish language interface in February last year, it will be interesting to see if Facebook can further close the gap on Tuenti in 2009, or if the market will reach an equilibrium and find room for both properties as leading destinations for the Spanish social networking community.”
