Facebook acquires Face.com: more tags coming! How often do your Facebook friends tag you on a picture that is, so to say, not as good as you would like it to be? Well, it looks like now this will happen more often – the world’s number one social network has acquired Face.com, a company which specializes in face recognition. You probably noticed that when you create a new photo album on Facebook, you are encouraged you to tag your friends in the pictures uploaded – on most of them people’s faces are already selected, and some even have names underneath (sometimes right, sometimes wrong). Acquiring Face.com may help Facebook improve this tagging suggestions feature, which works considerably worse on mobile devices. One of the apps developed by Face.com called KLIK does exactly that – it recognizes your friends’ faces as you take pictures with your phone. And more relevant tag suggestions mean more tags for all of us! By the way, if you don’t want to be tagged on embarrassing pictures you should consider turning off tagging suggestions: this way when a picture that looks like you according to Facebook is uploaded your name won’t show up as a suggestion. Besides that, you have an option to review all pictures you are tagged in before the tag is visible to anyone else – you can configure both in the privacy settings of your Facebook account …or just use something like this! ![]() Comment |
