
Red Cross and Dell - Social Media Tagteam? Sometimes I read about partnerships between company X and Y, but due to a sense of predictability or maybe lack of emerging opportunities I might absorb the information, store it somewhere in the back of my mind and move along ‘back to business’. Then again once in a while a partnership pops out of the ‘blue’ (pun intended), in this case red and blue and just leave you in ‘awe’. I am referring of course to the recent grand opening of the Digital Operations Center (DOC) in Washington D.C., a tremendous joint inititative of The American Red Cross and Dell, labeled the first social media-based operation devoted to humanitarian relief…how about that – here’s what RC ‘s President and CEO, Gail J. McGovern (one of the top 50 most powerful women in corporate America according to Fortune Magazine in 2000 and 2001) had to say about it. “The use of social media during disasters has grown exponentially in recent years, and this partnership with Dell will enable us to better understand and anticipate disaster needs and help connect people with the resources they need during emergencies,” said Gail J.
