Cool Channels from Sina Weibo

As the biggest Chinese Twitter, Sina Weibo has more than 200 million registered users. It faces lots of competition on the Weibo market. To keep the current share, the priority is to remind users continuously to use their current account and activate them.

Besides introducing more celebrities to use Sina Weibo, Sina is also working on creating new channels for the loyalty and participation of users. The most used channels are Weibo live, Weibo interview, Weibo topic, Weibo top, etc.

I selected a few interesting channels and you will know on what way that Sina Weibo retains its users.

Weibo Live
Weibo (Sina) live is a live broadcasting for big events such as the Oscar Academy Awards, Geneva International Auto Show, or local/company events such as press releases for a new product, fashion shows, award ceremonies. Below is what people can get from live.


Weibo (Sina) Live lists all the upcoming events, emphasis on the time and encourages interaction during the live broadingcasting. During the event, related celebities or the attendees will post messages, pictures, videos, explaining some terms, telling the stories and their feelings. General users can also interact with the people on site.

Weibo topic
Same as the name, it is the summary on some trendy topics on Weibo. If you do not know anything from one topic and do not want to be “out”, click in and you can get a story on how this topic comes out, a brief background knowledge, and all the tweets/comments.

Weibo top
Similar to Baidu top, on Weibo Top, you can see a complete list of top keywords, topics, people based on the posts, activities of followers, and number of retweets on Weibo. It is a valuable resource to research on the interest of Weibo users, the trend of certain activities, and even new business opportunities.
