Sina weibo has more tweets/second than Twitter Hopefully, you still remember what I wrote about Sina Weibo before. It is sort of Twitter, and very popular in China. From the pie chart below, you can see that Sina Weibo is clearly leading the micro-blog market of China, in acitve users and browsing time.
![]() At the beginning of the Chinese new year (year of Dragon), Sina Weibo shared good news with its users. At 00:00 23rd Jan, Sina Weibo reached a new record - 32,312 messages sent per second, which was about 7000 messages more than Twitter’s record – 25,088 in Japan during a TV screening of anime movie Castle in the Sky last December. ![]() According to the Chinese news site DONews, during this first minute of the dragon year 481,207 messages were sent, which is almost twice the amount of sent messages in the first minute of the year of Rabbit (last year). The number of Sina Weibo’s users increased 296% during 2011 and right now there are 250 million registered users. No doubt that this makes Sina Weibo the most popular micro-blog in China. I think western companies can take the advantage of its popularity as a marketing tool, in order to consolidate or expand their market(s) in China.
