A bloggers view on search in Europe: Nuno Hipólito

[Editor]Because you may not know all the Searchcowboys who are writing on this website about Search in Europe we are introducting every one of them with a special posting. We've asked them to write their view on the European Search
Market.
We are very proud to introduce our most southern writer: Nuno Hipólito. Nuno is a SEM consultant from Portugal. He is working for the first ever Portuguese SEM Company, Search Marketing.
Search in Europe: is it really like the Wild West?
Search Cowboys can be a really appropriate name for a site that focuses on the reality of SEM in Europe. Just because search is still viewed as the wild frontier for most companies, big or small: you can risk going there and win big, but you’re afraid of being killed by some strange animals that eat up your budgets and spit you out naked with only your boots still on.
Slowly enterprise awareness will grow. I think that search marketers have a big role to play in evangelizing big and small corporations in the added value of online marketing, by setting good examples, be it in their work ethics and dedication to the “cause”.
The Internet in Europe is growing as a both a marketing and a sales channel and those in early win a great competitive advantage in relation to their direct competition. This is especially true in emerging markets, like Portugal, where I do most of my work.
Working in a SEM agency I can see how clients are gradually enticed by the advantages of SEM, specially the way you can measure success in your campaigns. And when they start to see the advantages, it is like they think: “how did I miss this opportunity before? How could I run my business without SEM?”. It is really that major for them.
