Russian childrens search engine Gogul controls it all

Children on the web are a delicate topic. You want your kids to be 'safe searching' and not run into adult sites or other 'hazardous' content. Research last week by Symantec showed that its not easy to keep your kids away from these topics.

Thats why specific search engines are made, especcially for kids. An example of a childrens search engine is the Russian search engine Gogul. The search engine / browser only lets you visit pre-approved websites, but apparently parents aren't the only ones who can control it.

According to Techcrunch the approved content is filtered by a team of "parents, professional child psychologists and teachers". The websites will be categorized by age.

Gogul, with a name which without a doubt raises questions in Silicon Valley, is a search engine and an Internet Explorer add-on. For now it is free but Techcrunch notes that might not be for long because an investor had put in 350.000 euro.

Techcrunch finally noticed an interesting quote on a forum about Gogul where someone said "Gogul doesn’t search the word ‘Putin’.". We checked, and it does search for Putin, it just doesn't find any result :).
