Does Lycos want to get back in the game?

There was a time when there were more search engines with a bigger market share then less than a couple of percentages in Europe. Remember for example Lycos? Well surprise surprise: Lycos wants their market share back.

Daum Communications, which is the owner of Lycos, announced it had bought back the rights to use the name Lycos and Hotbot from Lycos Europe. Daum Communications hopes to make use of the loyal user base Lycos has built up through the years. Though nobody knows where this loyal  user base actually is...

Does Lycos want to get back in the game?

Jungwook Lim, CEO of Lycos stated: “Lycos continues to have a loyal user base and we expect this consolidation to help revitalize and strengthen our search businesses within Europe.”

Lycos wants to re-launch their search services pretty fast: “Over the next several weeks Lycos will be re-launching the provision of search services within the European territory. Locally targeted content verticals will gradually be rolled out and we will be taking steps to enhance our users’ search experience.” says Edward Noel, General Manager of Search and Business Development for Lycos.

Will Lycos stand a chance? Probably not, but why not give it a shot?
