Europes' boss of travel search engine Kayak resigns

Travel search engine Kayak has been trying to get a bigger part of the European market. In 2006 they launched in the UK and since then it has been battleling againts sites like Travelsupermarket and Skyscanner.

In August 2008 they hired ex-Skype executive Faisal Galaria to become European managing director. Only eight months later he resigns.

Officially Galaria left the business to 'pursue other interests'. But anyone with a little knowledge of business knows that is just another way of saying 'there were troubles'. And Galaria slightly admits the troubles by saying there was a “difference of opinion over the direction of the company”.

The travel-business is feeling the blow of the economic downfall and so is Kayak. Not only is there less money to be made, the competition is getting bigger every day. TripAdvisor for example will be launching a flight meta search functionality in the UK. And Travelzoo will be launching fly.com, a new meta search engine.

The resigning off the managing director is a clear signal Kayak is in trouble.

If I may, I'd like to add a very good travel search engine to your list: www.checkfelix.com (partnering with the most competitive travel agencies, airlines, lowcosts and charter airlines)
