What will 2009 bring in Search?

We left 2008 behind us and are now up for the year of the Ox, 2009! With all kind of top lists and hot or not's for 2008, now is the time to look forward and see what 2009 has in store for us Search geeks.

Some Searchcowboys bloggers have already given their outlook on the future of Search. In these outlooks  issues like SEO strategy, the influence of search marketers on online marketing, learn your visitors "slang" and the final(?) breakthrough of personalized search were discussed.

Now we want to now your opinion about Search in 2009! I will gather all suggestions and draw them in a blogpost later this year. So, let us know, what is Search about in 2009?

  • If I say a takeover of Yahoo I'm guessing I'm probably right. If that will be by Microsoft is to be seen, but I suspect so :)

  • I think Google will have a tough year.

    They need to grow revenue to keep shareholders happy, but focussing on display advertising and other "push media" won't be as easy as they dominated search advertising.

    Furthermore I think Search will become more focussed on people in stead of users, visitors or rankings. That means that usability, web analytics and social media will be increasingly important.

  • Bet we will see more localized results as location becomes even more important.
