Google Suggest in Portuguese
Google Portugal (www.google.pt) now suggests searches in Portuguese.
How will this affect the way people search online and how one can optimize for those searches?
When you type your search query, Google suggests other queries that may be related to yours. For instance, if you search for "carros" (cars), Google suggests "carros usados" (used cars). The order of the suggestions is not based only on search volume, which shows that Google is again using its golden rule of relevancy to present suggestions.
Will this have an impact on SEO?
There are different opinions regarding the impact of Google Suggest on SEO. In my opinion, Google Suggest won't be used by a massive ammount of people, although with time it can take a bit of some long tail searches. Google Suggest tends to suggest only 3-4 words max for a search query, which could impact long tail searches.
This could eventually lead to more search volume for highly competitive keywords, relegating long tail keywords to a even more niche search volume. Of course Google would appreciate such a scenario, which leads to higher CPCs in its Adwords advertising program.
On the plus side, Google Suggest can help you find good keywords. Google Suggest is really a live Keyword Tool. Just type your broad term match keyword and get some easy and quick variations that even get the Google relevancy seal of approval.
