The Importance Of Viral Marketing

Simon, an SEO Programmer at SEO Consult, shares his thoughts on what we can learn from Apple and their marketing strategies.
Apple has been the forefront of technology news for a few months now
with week upon week of new exciting news about all things Apple.
Starting from the IPad, then to the new IPhone software, then the new
MacBooks and whether they like it or not, the recently leaked next
generation IPhone.
The timing of these news releases were done in such a way (intentionally or not) that there was never a lack of hype about an up and coming product from apple. We were allowed to speculate long enough to stay interested and then examine the final product and discuss our thoughts.
Even the leak of the new IPhone was timed perfectly for apple as it coincided with the release of multiple android products in the US and Europe. So while there was still other important and relevant news, Apple stayed in the limelight with its latest products being discussed.
What we can take from this in terms of search marketing is the importance of good quality products, be it content, blogs, press releases or announcements. Google tries to read news and blogs as we do, so they see the relevance and the quality to whatever you release. Drip-feeding interesting information over time can be a great online marketing technique because it just about allows time for the dust to settle before new fresh information comes out and keeps you at the forefront of people’s minds.
At the end of the day, comparisons like this may seem strange but the foundations of good SEO and good marketing are there. If you are a business and have a good product/service then why not shout about it. But do it the right way, a way which attracts attention and keeps that attention. There are only so many press releases and blogs you can do on the same or similar subject – so of course each thing you publish needs to have fresh information or a new angle.
People get excited about Apple’s news because they like the products – it’s that simple. Whatever scale you are on in relation to them, the principle remains the same. Your quality products or services are what people are after, and by carefully managing your news announcements, blogs or press releases, you can also build the buzz and market effectively.
