
UK Search market sees an increasing growthMarketers in the UK are spending more money on Search Engine Marketing. Numbers measured by E-Frontier show that in the last Quarter of 2008 compared to the same in 2007 UK marketers spent 11% more of their budgets on search. The last Quarter of 2008 already showed an increase of search spend compared to Q3 by 14%. Those numbers aren’t that surprising because of the holiday season which always shows a growth in spending. We noticed before that Yahoo’s market share dropped big time in the UK. E-Frontiers numbers confirm the drop of Yahoo in favor of Google. Google’s content Network saw a growth of 294% to a market share of 6,4%. Microsoft Live Search has still got a steady (3,4%) market share. ![]() Microsoft Live Search was the only search engine which saw an increase of click through rates in the final Quarter. Good insight Bas
Q4 is always big compared to Q3 due to the big retailers and the Christmas push and this year particularly the Online Retail spend leap was bigger due to the current climate.
Will be interesting to see how the numbers stack up in Q1 2009. We are seeing a lot of UK businesses looking to move money to search for the accountability it offers. Early indications are promising so let’s hope it continues :)

Thanks Jon. It looks like companies are really getting to the insight that search is the way to go in economic difficult times :).
Note also that Q4 is up 11% compared to Q4 a year before.
