UK most succesful with online marketing campaigns

The AT Institute constantly researches online behavior and trends. In their latest research they compared different European countries on how the investments in online marketing campaigns work out.

The study shows that the UK is most successful in comparison to the other countries France, Germany and Spain. In the UK more than 50% of visits to websites who used online marketing campaigns actually came from the campaigns.

The study focused on website which are actually using online marketing campaigns. With online marketing campaigns they mean the use of affiliates and partners, marketing emails, RSS feeds and sponsored links or advertising.

The research shows a couple of interesting results amongst which:

  • 53% of visits to these sites on average in the United Kingdom have been generated by online marketing campaigns,
  • compared to 45.3% in Spain,
  • 40.3% in Germany,
  • and 28.9% in France, where online marketing campaigns have had the smallest impact on the websites analyzed for the study.

France therefore seems most reluctant to use online marketing tools and therefore also sees the least increase in traffic coming from these campaigns.

The graphs below show that Spain is closes to the UK, but that it still stays behind quite a lot.

Suprisingly enough sponsored links are the main source in both Spain (36%) and the UK (28%).  France is the only country in which search engines are the main source.

It seems as if Spain and the UK on one hand are very similar and France and Germany are on the other hand similar.

  • Shame we don't have The Netherlands in this data as it would be good to compare. I would imagine the UK would get a run for their money!
