Google VC wants to start "Silicon Milan" Remarkable news in Italy this weekend. Google Italy’s country manager, Massimiliano Magrini is said to have given up his job at Google Italy and plans to start a sort of "Silicon Milan". Magrini is the person who has started Google Italy in 2002, coming from Altavista, and has been in charge since. The news is remarkable because of the position Magrini has in Italy and because Italy doesn't really have a start up culture. There are hardly VC's in Italy so to talk about a "Silicon Valley in Italy" seemes a bit too much. But Margini is said to have the support of 20 other key players in the Italian Internet scene. mmmmmm.... we'll see....
This won't be the first VC initiative in Italy - all the previous ones failed because of lack of what you describe in the article as "VC culture", that never really existed in Italy....
Let's see what Magrini does in Milan - all my best wishes for his new venture!
In the meanwhile, I'll retweet it!
