Russians keep on advertising

Though the financial crisis did also hit Russia numbers show that the Russians are not holding back when it comes to advertising. Research by MindShare Interaction shows that online advertising generated 14.7 billion rubles (about €319 million) in Russia in 2008. This is a growth of 55 percent.

The growth can be seen in almost every advertising area. Online display advertising was up 46 percent, while contextual advertising was up 61 percent compared to 2007.

Yandex is the big winner when it comes to dividing the revenues. With more than 71 percent share of the Russian contextual advertising market the search engine generates over 85 percent of its total revenues on contextual advertising.
