Microsoft and Yahoo in suspense of EU decisions
The deal between Microsoft and Yahoo was thought to be a formality in Europe because even when joined in forces they wouldn't be a big player in Europe. A Microsoft spokesman however stated on Wednesday that both companies are still in suspense about the decisions the EU will make about the deal. Spokesman Jack Evans told the press on Wednesday that Microsoft and Yahoo are "determining whether or not the deal requires formal notice before the (European) Commission and if not, do we need to file notice".
The two companies are said to have been talking to the European Commission: "We have had informal discussions in Europe about the agreement just as we indicated we would when the deal was announced," Microsoft and Yahoo have filed paperwork for regulatory clearance in the U.S. Expectations are that the deal will be under more fire in the US where they have a much bigger market share than in Europe.
