Mobile search coming to BBC mobile

The BBC is a very big player in the UK. Not just as a television broadcaster, but also as one of the major websites in the UK. Every month several BBC-sites appear in the top rankings of most visited sites.

Now the BBC is aiming for another top position: the one in mobile. To be more specific: mobile search.

The BBC launched a new search engine on their homepage specificly for mobile users. Searches can be conducted for  iPlayer programmes, news, sport and radio and TV pages. Filtering can be done by both date and relevance.

"We spent weeks fine tuning the search logic, weighting our search terms and we now know more about the idiosyncrasies of search logic that we ever thought we would need to," says Ulyssa MacMillan on the BBC blog.

The BBC mobile website is one of the biggest around with thousends of mobile pages available. Adding the search option will most definitly make the website more accessible and will drive more traffic.
