Growing use of smartphones benefits social media and Google

The mobile revolution is not coming. It’s there. All industry experts and research firms agree that the sales of smartphones will continue to boost among business users and that consumers are increasingly switching to smartphones as well. And this is just the beginning since prices of smartphones continue to drop.

Recently, comScore MobiLens said that, in January 17.1% of US mobile subscribers went to a social networking site or blog in comparison to 13.8% in October.

Last week, the Web measurement firm reported that both Facebook and Twitter have seen triple-digit traffic growth on the mobile Web in the last year.

Facebook recently announced cracking 100 million active mobile users worldwide.

Yesterday, MediaPost wrote that “the simplest measure of momentum in Mobile is search traffic”.

Google saw mobile search traffic grow by five times in the past two years! Amazingly, these mobile searches have not affected searches via computer.

In a webcast, Google Engineering VP Vic Gundotra said that “during an average workday,mobile searches rise as desktop searches decline as people go out to lunch”.

This of course opens a range of new possibilities for advertising.

However, the evolution is especially good for Google.

Gundotra said that with smartphones cost per clicks have risen dramatically. And then I even haven’t talked about Google Android yet.
