Microsoft says no to Gatineau

Microsoft stops offering their Microsoft adCenter Analytics beta program. The Microsoft Advertising websites says it has been closed, and no additional invitations will be extended.

The Analytics program, otherwise known as Gatineau, will be available until the end of the year, but then all hosted services, data collection, and technical support will end. If you want you historical data to be saved you are urged to export your data and store it.

Microsoft says it has learned a lot about the analytics in the last couple of years but that a standalonetool like Gatineau doesn't "present the best value or utility for our customers".

In other words Microsoft says the Analytics-business is not a business they want to compete in. Unfortunately they don't say much about the reasons why, so we have to guess whether it's not enough user traffic, money or a possible deal with Yahoo. Fact is the tool couldn't compete with tools like Google Analytics so it's not a very surprising move if you look at it from a business point of view.
