Bing will also be bringing us Facebook-updates

It's been quite the day at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco yesterday. Both Bing and Google announced their deals with Twitter and Google also announced the Social Search Experiment.

Bing however wasn't done either. Next to the deal with Twitter they also announced a similar deal with Facebook. Microsoft, already an investor in Facebook, will also be bringing Facebook updates.

Bing will be bring content from accounts which are marked 'public' to their search engine. That is a very important condition which Facebook has made. Facebook is after all very keen on the privacy of its users.

They opened up a on-site search this summer but has until now not gone outside its own site. Facebook closed the site for search engines. That they now open up to Bing is therefore a big deal. Experts expect that Bing will just be serving status updates but won't be caching them. This means the data will be available for only a short period of time.

It's not clear yet if the Facebook results will be presented in a separate search engine, like with Twitter, or in the 'standard' Bing search. It could very well be that Bing will be launching a specific social search engine soon.
