The Dutchies have made their Streetview choice

After Stonehenge in the UK it was up to Holland to vote for where the Google Street View Trike was heading. Over the last two weeks the Dutch got to vote for their favourite spots. The first spot that Google will visit is amusementpark "The Efteling".

There were 22.000 Dutchmen who voted in total on the eighteen predefined locations. The five most popular ones were the Efteling (Amusementpark), Slagharen Attractiepark (Amusementpark), National Park 'de Hoge Veluwe', The Dutch Open Air museum and the Apenheul (a monkey-zoo).

All the locations are diffult to take pictures of because cars are not allowed. That's where the Streetview Trike comes in.

Google is doing this for several reasons. Off course there is the fact that they are getting more publicity for the Streetview version, but also the goodwill plays a big part, something we actually discussed in our Calling Holland podcast this week.

Google is very happy with the result. Press spokesman Alistair Verney says: "We got an incredible amount of votes from the Dutch people and our Trike team is looking forward to start working today and get the pictures available for fans of amusement-parks, nature lovers and historians worldwide as soon as possible.
