Google will erase Streetview pictures in Germany

Where in Holland original pictures from Streetview who were not blurred were used by the authorities to solve a crime, in Germany the authorities want to get rid of these images.

Google anonymizes images on request but saves the original ones on their own servers. The German authorities feel that is invading the privacy of the people on the images and demanded that Google would also anonymize the original footage. Google has agreed to do this in Germany.

AP states that Johannes Caspar, the head of the Hamburg regional office for data protection, said Google agreed to erase the raw footage of faces, house numbers, license plates and individuals in Germany who have told authorities they do not want their information used in the service.
