"Chrome 2" gets a speed injectionOne of the first things that came out of most reviews when Google Chrome launched 8 months ago was that the browser was very fast. And, especcially compared to my Firefox with a dozen plugins running, the browser really IS very fast. Well, Google believes it wasn't fast enough. So they increased the speed just a little bit more... with about 30%. Besides the increased speed Google added some more features to Chrome. Most of which were asked for by the public. Features added are amongst others: an Improved New Tab Page, Full Screen Mode and a Form Autofill. Google calls their update "Chrome 2". Google has increased the speed of the browser with a new version of WebKit and an update to their JavaScript engine, which also makes sure that JavaScript keeps running fast with lots of tabs opened. Something that was interesting right away with Chrome was the history of most visited websites in the new tab webpage. When opening a new tab you will see the websites you visited most. A feature which Firefox has added also recently. Annoying about this feature was that if you wanted to get rid of that one website which you didn't want showing up in your browser everytime, you couldn't. Google now gives you the opportunity to remove unwanted thumbnails. The other new options, Full Screen Mode and Form Autofill are features you can expect in a browser if you're working with either Firefox or Internet Explorer. That Google has added them now is nice, but to be honest, they should have been in "Chrome 1" already. While working on these features, Google also corrected over 300 bugs that caused crashes since launch, so the browser should be a lot more stable. Comment |
