Google Streetview stopped in Greece
Thu 14 May 2009 11:01, Bas van den Beld
Google Streetview keeps on making the news. Not only with all the new features or places added, but also with places NOT wanting to be on Streetview.
After the strubbles in the UK where people in Broughton litteraly tried to stop the Streetview cars, the cars are now taken of the road in Greece. And not just in one town, but in all of Greece.
The Hellenic Data Protection Authority, Greece's privacy watchdog, decided to stop Streetview and block them from getting more images until Google provides guarantees on privacy.
A Google spokesperson told CNN: "Street View has not been banned in Greece. We have received a request for further information from the Greek DPA and we are happy to continue discussing these issues with them and provide information they request.
Google takes privacy very seriously, and that's why we have put in place a number of features, including the blurring of faces and license plates, to ensure that Street View will respect local norms when it launches in Greece.
We believe that launching Street View in Greece will offer enormous benefits to both Greek users and the people elsewhere who are interested in taking a virtual tour of some of its many tourist attractions."

Funny enough, if you reverse the "camera" and start focusing in on Googler's own privacy they hate it.
Google want all information in the world to be accesible - except any information about themself.
