Green lights for Google Streetview car

Residents of UK-town Broughton made their own red light when the Google Streetview car drove into their town. They believed Google was intruding their privacy and called the police.

Following this incident Privacy International complained, together with 74 other, to the Information Commissioner and requested to have the service suspended. The UK's Information Commissioner disagrees and feels the service should not be stopped.

Google repeated its earlier statement that it would remove any picture from Streetview if someone requested that. It has already taken down many since Streetview entered the UK. Next to that Google has a automated face blurring technology, but that is not always working as its supposed to.

Google has always claimed it was working within the boundries of the UK law. This was now confirmed by the Commissioner. Though the Commissioner feels there is a 'small risk of privacy invasion' it thinks taking the service down would be "disproportionate to the relatively small risk of privacy detriment".
