Jail Time for Facebook Hacker Online hacking is used to commit fraud, theft and a range of other illegal activities. Not something to be taken lightly. However, when Glenn Mangham, a 26 year old software developer from Britain, gained access to a Facebook account, he insisted it was harmless and in the name of improving the site's security. Authorities took a different viewpoint. The FBI and British law enforcement, suspecting industrial espionage, launched a costly and timely investigation into the incident. Alison Saunders, chief crown prosecutor for CPS London, said “this represented the most serious and grave incident of social media hacking to be brought before the British courts”. Facebook reportedly spent $200,000 dealing with the aftermath of Mangham's crime.
