8 p.m. last night…koek and zopie concession stands preprogrammed on the ‘phoney’, Red Cross app fully tested and operational, extra battery pack..check, thermal gear up to par..doublechecked, eagerness..triplechecked, hey I am ready to go!

And then it all came falling down with the crushing announcement by our ‘old’ friend Wiebe Willing ‘Dear people I do not have any good news’… I didn’t even want to listen to the rest of the press conference, because the dream of me ‘speedskating’ (in my case slowmotion) my way across yonder ponds and 11 cities was over. Everyone is taking it hard, Wennemars understandably in tears in DWDD, #Elfstedentocht on Twitter doing overtime and even Fokke and Sukke have taken a stand. (see pic.)

Oh well we all know that we are a very down to earth people so basically life goes on with or without this epic journey. I am already thinking to switch my thoughts towards the other end of the barometer, and let’s be honest a virtual trip to Tahiti suddenly seems quite appealing…’Nana’ (which is Tahitian for ‘see you later’).
