Google+ for business – a new battle against Facebook?

Google+ finally makes a move to business, five months after the launch of the social platform. In a blog posted a few days ago, Google+ will not only focus on connecting people with other people, but also the things you care about – from local businesses to global brands. Officially, Google+ allow users to set up company page.

In the announcement, Google mentioned 20 companies already have pages on Google+, Burberry, Fox News, H&M, Macy's, Toyota, Pepsi.
You may still remember previously, Google restricted companies create “personal” pages for their business. While Facebook, on the contrary, reminds users for its unique business page at that time. On Facebook business page, companies can add or design its own page, creating events, providing information to targeting audience.
Apparently, the business pages on both sites are different. Below, I selected some brands mentioned in its blog as examples. First let’s see the result for Pepsi in Google+ and Facebook page.

It is easy to find the differences on design, number of likes/followers, functions, etc. In the table below, I listed a few differences.

Though Google use its own advantage in search to promote the Google+ business, and the exposure on search result is what the business wants. But don’t be too excited by the decision of Google. Google+ for business has just started, comparing to the page on Facebook, many need to be done to make it more attractive to users.

Somethings with the new google company promotion don't really make all that much sense especially with the PPC ads. I guess maybe everything still isn't set up all the way and we'll most likely have to wait and see what happens.

Hi Timmy, I agree that the + for business is not good enough for business purpose, but it may not affect a lot with paid Ads, for it has different purpose.
