New lay out Google Reader and images?

Sometimes you just stumble across changes which seem to be new. I haven't heard of any plans of lay out changes at Google, but a follower at Twitter pointed out that it seems as if Google has made some changes on their lay out in the images results.

When I then fired up my Google Reader I also noticed some changes. Is Google testing out the lay out or is it really a new look and feel? It looks nice and more clean.
