Social search: down but not out?

Only a few weeks ago Google announced social search. This potentially big change in the way we search was launched in labs and therefore in beta. Yesterday Mashable found that Social Search was down. Is the experiment already over?

Social Search gives you results of those in your network. Google results are merged with results from social data like Twitter, YouTube, blogs and more. With this Google potentially has taken a big step in the way we combine search and social. Taking the service down this soon could imply Google steps away from the service, but it looks more like there will be an upgrade soon.

It turns out Google has taken social search down for at least three days. According to Mashable the service will be inaccessible until Monday or Tuesday. Google didn't give any reason for the service being down.

Google only replied with:

"The Google Social Search experiment is temporarily down. We are working on it and expect to restore access sometime Monday or Tuesday"

For now we'll just wait and see what happens.
