Let Google run your energy

Fri 30 October 2009 09:00, Editors

In the UK Google has launched Google Powermeter. This software tool "provides consumers with information on how much energy their home is using." In the UK Google has signed deals with energy supplier first:utility and a self-install consumer device manufacturer AlertMe.

Using a personalized iGoogle homepage UK users of AlertMe can now access their home’s data through Google PowerMeter. What is really the use of this new Google feature? Well not very much. Its a service which every energy supplier could have set up on their own website. The fact that Google ads its name to it might make it special. See the video below on how it all works.
