Several European countries added to Google FLu Trends

Google Flu Trends has been out in the US since November 2008, but in the past year only a couple of countries like Mexico, New Zealand and Australia were added. Now Google finally adds several European countries.

Google added half of Europe to the trends map: Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Norway, Sweden Ukraine and Russia. Remarkable is that the UK is left out this time.

In addition to adding these countries Google also made the site available in 37 languages.

Google Flu Trends, an initiative of, was set up after Google saw a lot of searches for flu-related topics coming by during a longer period. It then worked out Google Flu Trends to estimate he level of flu, in near real-time, based on search queries.

In Flu Trends searches are filtered out that may be popular because people hear about them in the news. This means that for example 'Swine Flu' is ignored.
