Google naming blogs in news, but what's a blog?

In interesting find yesterday by WebProNews. It seems as if Google is explicitly 'naming' blogs in Google News. When searching for specific terms Google puts (blog) next to the publications name.
The results are mixed together in Google News, kind of like universal, but get a specific mention of 'blog'. It is not everytime however a blog gets this 'stamp', the system doesn't seem to work properly yet. It looks like a test from Google on this issue. Webpronews rightfully poses the question: what is classified as a blog?

Maybe Google is planning to let users filter on blogs? Or better, to let them skip the blogs? If I want to search blogs I can use Google Blog search. In Google News, I only want major news sources. But I guess not everyone will agree with this. So to have a choice would be best.
