'Macbook wheel' fools a lot

Tue 6 January 2009 12:35, Bas van den Beld

It sounds real, it looks real for some it might even feel real: the new Macbook Wheel. Presented at Macworld by Steve Jobs. The video, brought by Onion News Network shows us the newest addition to the Mac-family.

But wait, MacWorld? That hasn’t started yet… And Steve Jobs? He isn’t even going to attend Macworld, let alone present it. Here’s a hoax a lot of bloggers fell for.

The video, which was posted on Onion News Network this morning, has been taken over by a lot of bloggers who assumed it was really the new Macbook. A search for “Macbook wheel” on Google.com gives us already over 3500 hits alone. On Twitter it is one of the most talked about topics already.

In the video you can hear a lot of things which could help you indicate it's fake. We've mentioned the Steve Jobs already, but they also talk about writing an e-mail in only 45 minutes and quotes like "Everything on your harddrive is just a few hundred clicks away" should give it away...

The video is linkbuilding at its best. According to linkdiagnosis the page where the video is hosted on generated already almost 9000 backlinks (+1 from us).
