A4U Expo interview series: Mel Kirk

With A4U Expo only one day away today we interview some of the female speakers at A4U. Bas van den Beld and Jon Myers discuss the search- sessions with several speakers.

First up is Mel Kirk. Mel is social media strategist at Whitelabeldating.com and will be speaking on the "You want to Tweet What!? - Social Media, Twitter and Affiliate Marketing".

Listen to the podcast here

Could you tell us who you are?
Mel is White Label Dating’s very own self confessed web geek. She’s responsible for the social media strategy, which suits her down to the ground given her passion for communities - focused on feature development and connecting users effectively.

The web comes as second nature to Mel given her vast experience in the field. In previous roles, she’s organised world-class web events whilst working for Carsonified, has built and managed online communities and most recently directed the online strategy for Aardman Animations including www.wallaceandgrommit.com and www.shaunthesheep.com.

Mel has built a name for herself in the web community as an avid blogger at www.randommel.com where she posts her weekly random videos. Funnily enough she’s mute in the videos, if only that was the case in real life! Mel describes herself as being a social media butterfly and is happy to talk geek til the cows come home!

What will your session be about at A4U Expo and will you be talking about in specific?
My session will be looking at social media and the power of communities, the changing landscape of advertising and the effectiveness of advocates.

What is the link between SEO and affiliates for you? Who needs who?
I'm currently the Social Media Manager for White Label Dating. We rely heavily on SEO to get our brand out there in terms of the search engines. We don't currently have an affiliate scheme, but are looking to introduce one shortly.

What makes A4U Expo a conference you want to be speaking at?
I'm looking forward to speaking at A4U as it's run by people who understand the industry. It provides a great tool to bring people together to discuss ideas, motivate and inspire.

Why should we visit your session?
My session will look at bringing the impact of grassroots marketing to individuals who may not have considered the approach before, focussing on the benefits and approaches. It looks at creating buzz and driving traffic to your site for minimal cost.

Which other session will you be visiting and believe that others should?
"My 12 Biggest Affiliate Marketing Mistakes in 12 Years" and "Barriers to Conversion & Discovering Untapped Opportunities With Analytics"

Mel Kirk can be found on her website or on Twitter.

The series can also be followed on iTunes

In the series we also talked to:
