Official launch of Searchcowboys!

Wed 7 January 2009 11:29, Bas van den Beld

Welcome to Searchcowboys.com. Today we officially launch our website about search with a focus on Europe! After almost two months and well over 200 posts Searchcowboys is coming out of beta. With this post I can officially welcome you as a visitor of Searchcowboys.com. I hope to see a lot of you!

Let's take a short step back to introduce you to this website. First of all I'd like to tell you why we thought we should launch this site, then I would like to show you around a little, to make you feel at home right away.

Official launch of Searchcowboys!

Why?
So why (another) website about search? Surely there are a lot search-related websites and blogs around on the world wide web. Absolutely. But the search-industry is still growing and getting more and more important every day. And we feel we can add a lot to the existing websites.

One thing that was missing in Europe was a website about search with a European focus. There’s a lot of search quality in Europe. Europe has got a lot of highly qualified SEO's and bloggers who write about search. Still we mostly look at the US.

We are all big fans of websites like Searchengineland, Search Engine Watch and all the other ones which provide plenty of information about search marketing world wide. They are a great source of information on search in general but we feel there's a need for a website who looks at what's going on in Europe. And don't worry, we won't be forgetting about other parts of the world!

In the cowboys-network we already have sites about Internet Marketing & Tech with a focus on countries like Holland (Dutch Cowboys), Belgium (Belgian Cowboys) and Germany (Germancowboys). Also there is a sister-site written only by women (Dutchcowgirls) and about the Mobile Industry (Mobilecowboys). A website about Search with a European focus fits in very well.

The European focus
Because we want to keep you posted on what's going on in Europe we started looking for bloggers from around the continent. We have found a lot already and in the near future we will be presenting more bloggers from different countries like Belgium, France, the UK and Spain. If you are a experienced writer and would like to write for us, be sure to contact us!

The special interest in Search in Europe can also be seen through the special features we have supporting the European view. For example, every post which is related to a specific country also can be recognized by a flag next to it and there are overviews of news per country. In the next months we will also be rolling out some channels for specific countries in their own language. The old searchcowboys.nl will then be integrated into this website.

Newsfromyourcountry

A quick look around the website
If this is your first visit to Searchcowboys, you will have a lot to find out. I would suggest you start looking for our fun-features first. Try out the header for example and our integrated Twitteraccount (look at the bottom of a post) is worth taking a look at.

Because the website has a lot to offer we made a short video with what you can expect on this website. You can look at it below. I would like to point out some features here though.

Searchcowboys will be extensively covering events which are search-related. In our special event-channel you can find everything related to events like SES, SMX and A4uExpo. Also be sure to take a look at the SEO Roadshow in which Joost de Valk, Eduard Blacquiere and myself interview those that matter in search.

Seoroadshowpage

Related to the SEO Roadshow is our newest feature: Calling Europe, a series of podcasts where every month we will be calling all over Europe to hear what's going on in that country. We will, amongst others, be calling Dave Naylor (UK), Marcus Tandler (Germany) and Roy Huiskes and Eduard Blacquiere (Netherlands).

Also be sure to take a look at our hot topics, our polls, the reviews, our extensive videochannel and don't forget to register for our newsletter!

We hope to see a lot of you here at Searchcowboys. If you have any suggestions please don't hesitate to let us know what you think. You can add your suggestion or opinion to the comments or mail us at webmaster @ searchcowboys.com! We are there for you so let us know so we can make it better!

Great page. And we really needed a European focus in search that was too centered in the States.

  • Ow.. one for feedback. The layout might be a bit too orange. Had a hard time finding the RSS feed, which actually is a huge-ass icon.

  • I first met Bas and Searchcowboys at SMX back in November last year where they did a video interview with me. I was really impressed with the questions and how easy it was to talk to them. Really enjoyed being interviewed, it was just like a proper chat.

Really honoured you guys have asked me to contribute as well. It will be fun!

Well done on the launch! Searchcowboys rocks!
