Baidu VS Google, why Baidu plays big in China?

For the fail of Google in China, many said it is mainly because of the censorship from the government. Should there be other reasons for the domination of Baidu? Of course! Google should shoulder the responsible for its fail. In my opinion, the situation right now for Google is not positive, and there is not much room in the market even Google wants to go back later.

Many researches show the online behavior for Chinese internet users are so different from the rest. Baidu knows it quite well, and adjust its products all the time and work with many online platforms to provide the most relevant results and give the convenience to users. Below are the big changes I also wrote about before.

  1. Corporate with Bing to improve better results in English search queries. If the English search queries are not commonly used everyday, the result from Bing will be shown on the search results.
  2. Corporate with Weibo (Chinese Twitter), and Weibo result can show up on a special column under some trendy keywords.
  3. Corporate with all kinds of information services sites to bring convenience to users with the use of Open Platform. Users can check public transportation; listen to the music, download software, and company phone number, etc. directly from the search result.

When talking about technology such as algorithm, of course Google is more advanced right now, but many admit that Baidu is better in recognizing Chinese language. So Google does not have lots of advantage here. The users favor the interface of Baidu. For example, in Baidu Map, you can get more detailed information about real-time road traffic, route and shops, but none on Google. Though sometimes the results Baidu provides do not fit that well, but taking other convenience into consideration, many Chinese users will choose Baidu for sure.

The trend of the market also gives Google a punch. Rumor said that Apply is planning to work with Baidu and say goodbye to Google in China. For Chinese market, Apple’s iOS, the mobile OS that powers iPhone, iPad and iPod, will be integrating Baidu. Though Google has Android, and it’s hot in China because of the super-open. Which means, the Chinese mobile makers are free to change on the choice of search engine. Unfortunately, none of them was Google. Maybe the news previously is not reliable, but if it is the case, Google will fall much behind.

Understand the need of users, keep on product innovation and provide what users want, which is the most important reason why Google cannot compete with Baidu in China.
