Baidu can index Weibo (Chinese Twitter)

Be careful! Your comments on Weibo can be indexed and searched by others on Baidu. How can it happen? Baidu Open data makes it possible. I have introduced Baidu open data on the previous article. Unlike Google indexed Twitter pages previously, the Weibo users can not choose not to be indexed.

How does it look like? See below:


From the screenshot, it is clear to see that the search result from weibo is ranks high on the organic search, and in the special column, which made them distinguished from the rest. But the chance to see the results from Weibo is slim, unless from the breaking news.

The market share for Weibo is obvious, Sina Weibo occupies the biggest share, with 87% on top, while the others are trying to expand. That is why Tencent Weibo is cooperating with Baidu to let Baidu index all its pages. It means that all the search result from Weibo is from Tencent. Since there are limited topics can trigger the result from Weibo, so the use for marketing is not clear right now, but what can be sure is the use for linkbuilding. Use Weibo for linkbuilding is by approved Baidu, as stated on its SEO guideline, but it is not clear on how much it can be weighted yet.

Why Baidu wants to work with Tencent Weibo instead of creating its own Weibo users? Well, Baidu do tried, but failed, and the competition for Weibo is already ferious, why not works with others to improve user experience? This cooperation made the search on Baidu close to individuals, directly present personal views to audiences. For Tencent Weibo, it has more exposure and more people will join in afterwards. To Tencent Weibo users, some may not be happy to see their personal opinions viewed by anyone, but some may be very excited for the exposure. It is still not clear on how long cooperation will last, for the connection between Google and Twitter does not last long.
