Space Jump Set a Youtube Record

The Austrian skydiver, Felix Baumgartner, did not only break the speed and altitude record, but also a Youtube record. More than 8 million people watched Baumgartner through Youtube livestream, which set the record with the most concurrent views ever on Youtube.

Baumgartner jumped in a pressurised suit from 39 km high in a capsule taken up by a gigantic helium balloon. The jump was broadcasted live on Youtube through Red Bull channel. The 43-year-old skydiver had been training for 5 years for this jump.

The previous record for a single live video service was held by summer Olympics 2012, when they had 500.000 concurrent streams. Other web livestream record holders included the inauguration of the United States president Barack Obama in January 2009, which had 7 million streams and the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in April 2011, which reached 2 million viewers on livestream.com and 3 million viewers on Akamai.

The highest jump from a platform (39 km)
The longest distance freefall (36.5 km)
Maximum vertical velocity (833.9 mph)
